About the role
Provide full-time field inspection and construction oversight for work at North Elizabeth, Edison, Summit, and East Orange Stations. Monitor contractor activities for compliance with contract drawings, specifications, approved work plans, safety requirements, schedule, and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate daily field activities with the Construction Program Manager, Construction Manager/RE, contractor, NJ TRANSIT departments, and other project stakeholders.
- Perform daily field inspections; prepare detailed daily reports and photo documentation.
- Complete and submit a daily field report at the end of each shift for both NJ transit and AMTRAK, as required.
- Verify contractor manpower, equipment, materials, and quantities.
- Monitor work progress and quality; identify and document deficiencies and potential issues.
- Review work against approved drawings and specifications.
- Witness testing and inspections as required.
- Assist with quantity verification and payment documentation.
- Participate in field meetings and coordination activities.
- Monitor safety and railroad protection requirements; immediately report significant safety, quality, schedule, or constructability concerns to the construction manager.
- Provide coverage at all four station locations as directed.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of construction inspection experience, preferably on railroad, transit, station, or other public infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, safety requirements, quality control, and field documentation.
- Ability to coordinate with contractors, construction management staff, NJ TRANSIT departments, and Rail Operations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Skills
- Previous NJ TRANSIT or railroad construction experience preferred.
- Experience with station rehabilitation, structural steel/stairs, concrete, roofing, architectural work, and general civil construction.
- Familiarity with SSSWP, PTE, railroad access requirements, and work performed adjacent to active railroad operations.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between multiple NJ TRANSIT station locations.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required NJ TRANSIT Roadway Worker Protection (RWP) / Roadway Worker Safety (RWS) training, NJ TRANSIT Contractor Safety Training, and any other applicable railroad and track safety qualifications required for access to NJ TRANSIT properties and right-of-way.
Schedule
- Shift: 7:00 am to 3:30 pm
- Lunch period (Unpaid): 30 Minutes
