Job Summary
The Construction Helper serves as a spotter for lifts, cleans and prepares construction sites, loads and unloads materials, tools, and equipment, and assists the crew with a variety of physical labor and construction activities. They must be safety-oriented with a strong work-ethic.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Helps prevent accidents by serving as a spotter for lifts on the job site
- Cleans and prepares construction sites, materials and tools
- Loads, unloads, and transports materials, tools, and equipment
- Removes and cleans garbage, spills, debris, and other materials from the job site
- Aids with construction tasks including using power tools, caulking, and general cleanup
- Moves or positions materials and equipment
- Shapes or cuts materials to specified measurements using tools
Minimum Qualifications
- Good communication skills – verbal and nonverbal
- Excellent listening skills; able to listen, understand, and follow the instructions of crew and supervisors
- Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and follow plans and specs
- Working knowledge of proper construction techniques, practices, procedures, and safety requirements
- Effective team player
- Organizational and time management skills
- Attention to detail with a focus on error prevention
- Ability to understand, follow, and communicate standard operating policies and procedures, and regulations
- Ability to work under time pressure and adapt to changing requirements in a positive and constructive manner
Physical Requirements
- Work is performed while standing, sitting, squatting, and/or walking
- Able to talk and hear, both in person and by phone
- Able to use hands and fingers for grasping, moving and assembling objects and operating hand tools
- Physically active for long periods of time
- Able to bend, squat, crawl, climb, and reach
- Able to lift, carry, push or pull objects up to 50 pounds (including but not limited to heavy equipment, materials, etc)
- Requires activities involving being around moving mechanical parts and machinery, exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity, working at various heights, and exposure to dust, fumes, gases, toxic, caustic chemicals, and loud noise
- Must be able to travel daily to job sites
- Operate heavy machinery and power tools and needed
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
