Position Summary

The Construction Foreman is responsible for leading field crews in the safe, efficient erection of structural steel for commercial and industrial projects. This role combines hands-on ironwork with daily crew supervision, ensuring work is completed to specification, on schedule, and in full compliance with safety standards. The Foreman sets the tone for safety, productivity, and quality on the jobsite.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, direct, and coordinate ironworker crews in daily erection activities
    Plan work assignments, sequencing, and manpower to meet project schedules
    Train, mentor, and develop crew members; enforce accountability and performance standards
    Communicate clearly with project managers, superintendents, and other trades

  • Structural Steel Erection
    Read and interpret construction drawings, shop drawings, and specifications
    Oversee layout, rigging, hoisting, connecting, bolting, and welding of structural steel components
    Ensure proper alignment, plumbness, and fit-up of all members
    Coverage crane operations and material staging for efficient workflow

  • Safety & Compliance
    Promote and enforce a strong safety culture on every jobsite
    Conduct daily safety meetings/toolbox talks and job hazard analyses (JHAs)
    Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies
    ID hazards and take immediate corrective action

  • Quality & Productivity
    Ensure all work meets project specifications, tolerances, and quality standards
    Monitor productivity and adjust crew activities to stay on schedule
    Minimize rework through proper planning and oversight
    Maintain clean and organized work areas

  • Documentation & Reporting
    Track daily progress, manpower, and production
    Report issues, delays, and material needs to management
    Assist with timekeeping and job documentation as required

Qualifications

  • Experience: 5+ years of structural steel or ironworking experience required
    Proven experience leading crews on structural steel erection projects preferred
    Demonstrated ability to deliver projects safely and on schedule

  • Skills & Knowledge: Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and erection drawings
    Solid understanding of rigging, crane signaling, and steel erection methods
    Working knowledge of OSHA standards and jobsite safety practices
    Effective leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
    Ability to work under tight deadlines and changing jobsite conditions

  • Certifications (Preferred): OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
    Rigging and/or signaling certification
    First Aid/CPR

Pre-Employment and Safety Requirements

  • Complete a pre-employment blood test for baseline lead level monitoring
    Successfully pass a respirator medical evaluation and fit test
    Successfully pass a 3G and 4G welding qualification test
    Meet all applicable customer, project, and site-specific requirements
    Comply with all company safety policies, procedures, and training requirements

  • Work Environment: Outdoor construction sites with exposure to weather, noise, and heavy equipment
    High-risk environment requiring strict adherence to safety procedures and PPE

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work at heights and in varying weather conditions
    Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver heavy materials
    Frequent climbing, standing, bending, and physical activity
