About the Role
J&L Builders is seeking a knowledgeable construction foreman experienced in overseeing commercial construction tenant improvement and ground up projects. The position requires the foreman to manage day-to-day activities on the jobsite with the ability to plan, organize, direct and control construction activities with minor input from the general superintendent. Responsibilities
For projects $1 – $1,000,000:
- Plan, schedule, and manage construction projects onsite from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to project specifications, safety, quality, and timelines
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure seamless project execution
- Review project plans and coordinate the scope of work, budgets, schedules, and resource allocation
- Monitor project progress and safety and identify potential risks or issues, implementing corrective actions as necessary
- Coordinate procurement of materials, equipment, and subcontractors to ensure timely project execution
- Supervise on-site construction activities, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry standards
- Provide regular project updates to the J&L Project Manager, addressing any concerns or changes in project scope
- Participate in project meetings and facilitate effective communication among team members and subcontractors
- Evaluate project performance onsite against key metrics and objectives, implementing continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure all project documentation, permits, as-builts and regulatory requirements are properly maintained in the field
- Mentor and supervise onsite project team members and subcontractors, providing guidance and feedback
- Ability to create, update and execute a Microsoft Project schedule when handed a set of plans
- Ability to solve problems when conflicts arise
- Do whatever is necessary to make sure the project runs smoothly
- Ability to create RFI's and understand submittals to ensure the correct products are being installed on the project per the plans and specifications
- Provide carpentry / laborer level skills as needed
For projects +$1,000,000:
- Be superintendent's lead asset in field
- Identify, facilitate, and understand RFI's, submittals and schedules for proper execution
- Ensure the project site is properly maintained and in good working order
- Ability to sequence construction activities, coordinating with subcontractors to maintain construction schedule objectives and update the project superintendent with status
- Works with all levels of the organization and onsite subcontractors to gain buy-in on our safety programs
- Responsible for monitoring, maintaining logs, and reporting per the requirements of governmental agencies
- Will implement daily reports on the projects
- Provide laborer level skills as needed
Requirements
- Reports to: Superintendent and/or Project Manager
- Work schedule: Full-time hourly, may require weekend and shift work
- Computer skills: Word, Excel, Outlook, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project and an industry standard PM software (ACC / Procore / Etc.)
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in commercial construction, including 2+ years in a leadership role (Lead Carpenter, Lead Laborer, etc.)
- Ability to read plans, submittals, RFI's and change orders
- Ability to supervise subcontractors, understanding their scope of work and confirming completion of work that meets or exceeds our quality standards
- Understanding and ability to implement the project schedule and adhere to the construction documents
- Able to update 3-week rolling schedule in Microsoft Project
- Receptive to learning and thinking outside the box

- Walk project and fill out JHAs, dailies, and weekly safety meetings
- Capable of stopping unsafe construction activities and enforcing the company's safety program
- Ability to coordinate and successfully complete inspections
Physical & Travel Requirements
- Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds
- Must have a valid driver's license and must be insurable by the Company's insurance carrier
- Travel based on jobsite locations within the surrounding Sacramento Valley Region
