Construction Engineering Intern - Summer 2027

About the Role

Assist CEI staff with observing and documenting roadway, bridge, drainage, utility, and traffic-control activities on active transportation construction projects.

Responsibilities

  • Review construction plans and specifications with project staff to understand contract requirements.
  • Support the tracking and coordination of contractor submittals, RFIs, change-order documentation, action items, and project correspondence.
  • Coordinate with engineers, inspectors, contractors, and project personnel while following safety requirements and procedures in active construction environments.
  • Prepare spreadsheets, meeting notes, status reports, and progress updates.
  • Assist project staff with verifying construction quantities and preparing pay-estimate documentation.

Qualifications

  • No experience is generally required if accepted into an Associate's or Bachelor's degree program in a related technical field.
  • Must have completed 60 credit hours toward a Civil Engineering degree from an ABET-accredited program by the start of the internship in Summer 2027.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong attention to detail, communication skills, willingness to learn, and ability to work safely in both office and active construction environments.

Pay

Expected compensation range is between $25 - $31 hourly depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
