About the role
This position as a Construction Engineer/Project Manager is a full-time role. This role will allow the candidate to assist with the development of construction plans and specifications, manage the bid process, and provide construction management services for various public and industrial sector projects.
Responsibilities
- Aid in the development of project plans and specifications.
- Assist in identifying and qualifying sub-contractors required for the project, including all sites and building trades.
- Create initial project-specific cost estimates and take lead responsibility for budgetary management of various cost components of the project.
- Monitor and ensure schedule performance and quality workmanship of contractors.
- Work closely with the contractor, architect, civil engineer, and associated consultants to develop site-specific value engineering options for the work.
- Review change proposals, request for information, supplemental instructions, and other contract documentation on behalf of the client's interests.
- Approve contractor payment requests.
- Attend local meetings, approval meetings, and conferences on behalf of the client.
- Document and take action on items in the client's interests.
- Coordinate with client's design and construction personnel to ensure accuracy in the owner's development of construction documents.
- Serve as an information resource by coordinating client's work, participating in construction meetings, resolving disputes, providing ongoing feedback, and coordinating project punch list and close-out.
- Prepare construction completion reports.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Related Bachelor’s degree (preferably construction management or civil engineering).
- Minimum eight years’ experience with LA DOTD construction project operations.
- Minimum three years directly related leadership experience with construction background.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record.
- Hands-on experience with directing the activities of contractors and crews for mechanical, electrical, civil, and structural construction in an industrial setting.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and maps.
- Proficiency with Word, Excel, and MS Project.
