About the role
The Nebraska Department of Transportation's (NDOT) Construction Division is offering an opportunity for a college student interested in furthering their plans, specification, cost estimating, and construction knowledge and experience. Gain hands-on, real-world experience in a supportive and collaborative team environment.
Responsibilities
- Track and review roadway, bridge, and building plan corrections to verify that they reflect the requested changes.
- Track the submittal and return of plan corrections to the project designer, maintaining close contact with NDOT designers and consultants.
- Prepare cost estimating-related documentation for the Department.
- Gain experience with the preparation of letting packages, contract time allowance, project final review, and other Construction Division responsibilities.
Requirements
- Must be a three-fourths time student in good standing majoring in a discipline or field related to the work to be assigned (e.g., engineering, architecture, construction management, or a related field).
- Able to work at least 12 hours a week when classes are in session (16 hours a week preferred).
- Temporary full-time employment may be available during scheduled school breaks.
- Regular and reliable attendance is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Second-semester sophomore or higher.
- Major in horizontal or vertical design or construction.
- Experience with Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD).
Skills
- Effective communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Experience with Bluebeam or Adobe Acrobat (a plus).
- Basic knowledge of Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD).
