CONSTRUCTION CREW SUPERVISOR (WATER RESOURCES)
About the role
The successful applicant must possess a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution and at least three years of experience in water and sewer utilities construction and repair, with a heavy concentration on equipment operation.
Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment including back-hoe, tracked excavators, wheeled loader and dozer.
- Supervise and participate in the work of a water and sewer system maintenance crew.
- Install and perform maintenance on water and sewer utility services.
- Install and perform repairs on fire hydrants.
- Ensure the availability of equipment and materials.
- Train, supervise, evaluate, and handle disciplinary actions of subordinate personnel.
- Respond to after-hours emergency situations.
- Assist in smoke-testing sewer lines.
- Maintain assigned vehicles, tools, and equipment.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by supervision.
Requirements
- Valid North Carolina Class B CDL with the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within six months.
- An active and consecutive 3-year verifiable driving history.
- Knowledge of water and sewer utility construction repair and maintenance.
- Knowledge of city policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of job-related equipment and tools.
- Ability to analyze problems and identify solutions.
- Ability to prepare clear and accurate reports.
- Ability to establish cooperative and productive working relationships.
- Ability to set priorities for completing projects.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations relevant to utility construction.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Supervisory Controls
The General Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

The work consists of related supervisory and technical duties. Heavy traffic and inclement weather contribute to the complexity of the work.
Scope and Effect
The purpose of this position is to supervise a crew of personnel in the repair and maintenance of water and sewer utilities. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of system operations.
