Key job responsibilities

  • Execute end-to-end cost management functions aligned, including cost planning, cost control, cost forecasting, and cost reporting across multiple assigned projects.
  • Maintain compliance with Amazon's internal cost management governance standards, including cost authority thresholds, approval workflows, and financial delegation of authority.
  • Track and report cost performance metrics
  • Create and maintain processes for timely cost variance identification and escalation per established thresholds.
  • Review, analyze, and challenge cost and time change requests from external partners
  • Contingency management and monthly cost reporting leveraging internal data and tools with a bias toward automation.
  • Develop strong partnerships with Construction Managers, Preconstruction Managers, Design, Procurement, Finance, and Operations teams.
  • Independently identify project risks including financial cost impacts and communicate to the Cost Management Manager and cross-functional partners.
  • Contribute to daily, weekly, and monthly cost reports with a bias toward automation.
  • Communicate cost metrics, trends, and recommendations effectively (verbal and written) to cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Explore and implement generative AI and automation tools to accelerate cost estimating, change order analysis, variance reporting, and lessons-learned extraction.
  • Strong fundamentals on cost management platforms (e.g., Procore, Ecosys, Oracle Unifier, or equivalent) and advanced Excel capabilities (Power Query, pivot tables, array formulas, macros) for cost tracking and analysis.

Communication & Reporting

  • Contribute to daily, weekly, and monthly cost reports with a bias toward automation.
  • Communicate cost metrics, trends, and recommendations effectively (verbal and written) to cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders.

Data Analytics & Technology

  • Explore and implement generative AI and automation tools to accelerate cost estimating, change order analysis, variance reporting, and lessons-learned extraction.
  • Strong fundamentals on cost management platforms (e.g., Procore, Ecosys, Oracle Unifier, or equivalent) and advanced Excel capabilities (Power Query, pivot tables, array formulas, macros) for cost tracking and analysis.

A day in the life

  • Work with Construction Managers and act as a strategic advisor on all cost functions across multiple projects.
  • Independently manage cost tracking, change order validation, and financial reporting for your assigned portfolio while collaborating with Finance, Planning, and Design teams to predict project costs at a network level.
  • Support financial white papers with data and analysis, identify cost savings opportunities, and drive process improvements within your workstream.
  • Make trade-offs between time, quality, and resources on your assigned projects, escalating strategic decisions to your manager as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience as an Architect, Engineer, Construction Manager, Development Manager, Owner's project management representative or in other Commercial Development and Construction related disciplines
  • 5+ years of construction cost management, cost engineering, estimating, or quantity surveying experience
  • Proficiency with cost management software, scheduling tools (Primavera P6, MS Project, or similar), and advanced Excel
  • Experience using data analytics to identify trends, drive and support process improvements, and inform strategic decisions through metrics and KPIs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Business, or related field
  • Experience across multiple construction disciplines (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical)
  • Professional certifications: CCP (Certified Cost Professional), CCE (Certified Cost Engineer), PMP (Project Management Professional), MRICS/FRICS, EVP (Earned Value Professional), or equivalent
  • Deep knowledge and history of implementing / using of AACE International Recommended Practices
  • Knowledge of CSI MasterFormat™, CSI UniFormat™, and RICS New Rules of Measurement (NRM 1, NRM 2)
