About the role

Gilbane is seeking a Business Controller to ensure timely and accurate Business Unit (BU) financial reports and safeguard company assets while overseeing a single business. As a key partner, you will collaborate with Department Heads and Market Leaders to align overhead departments with the business’s financial goals.

Responsibilities

  • Confirm basic internal controls are in place and maintained, including segregation of duties, financial reporting, and compliance with policies.
  • Ensure accuracy of financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting (e.g., start/completion dates, fee sales, labor sales, labor forecast, regional forecast).
  • Certify project forecasts are set up per contract and accurately reported from the CE system, with fee analysis occurring.
  • Enforce adherence to non-reimbursable cost policies and ensure proper approvals are in place.
  • Analyze balance sheet accounts monthly and take corrective action as needed.
  • Classify capital expenditures properly and ensure regional compliance with company policy.
  • Adhere to profit recognition rules for monthly closing.
  • Implement zero-defect quality measures for AR, eliminating delinquent receivables and unbilled costs.
  • Establish procedures for invoice review and approval.
  • Ensure timely and accurate time reporting for project forecasting and payroll.
  • Serve as administrative manager for the regional office, overseeing leasing, leasehold improvements, national accounts (travel, supplies, equipment, auto leasing/rental, records retention, technology, and cellular service).
  • Manage capital expenditures in accordance with company policy.
  • Identify and report financial risks to the company.
  • Assess training needs for project forecasting and collaborate with operations managers to deliver training.
  • Interpret and communicate organizational strategy, ensuring team alignment with strategic goals.
  • Manage work independently while coaching and developing team members.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive work environment to motivate and engage the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience, with exposure to revenues of $500 million+ (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Experience with CMiC (preferred).
  • Knowledge of DCAA labor rates, burdens, and internal cost allocations.
