Our Lamar office in Kansas City, Missouri is hiring a new Operations crew member to install and maintain billboards, including advertisement installation, structural maintenance, and cosmetic upkeep. This role primarily works as part of an installation crew, providing all training and equipment needed to start your career in outdoor advertising.

About the role

As part of Lamar’s billboard construction and operations crew, you’ll experience the city from a bird’s-eye view while building and maintaining structures that keep communities informed. The position involves working outdoors in various weather conditions and at heights up to 200 ft. Nights spent away from home traveling are less than 10%, and on-call shifts may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain billboards, including removing and hanging flexes/vinyls, cutting and preparing materials, and installing copy on Tri-Visions
  • Maintain structures through repairs such as tightening bolts, painting steel, repairing trim, changing light bulbs, and assembling structures
  • Build and install extensions, cut brush/weeds, conduct storm damage repairs, and perform minor electrical repairs
  • Sweep and clean workshop areas, use power/manual tools, and adhere to all safety regulations
  • Attend safety meetings as required
  • Maintain operation vehicles, tools, equipment, and machinery
  • Take completion photos for proof of performance

Requirements

  • Good communication skills and ability to speak/read English fluently
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with others
  • Basic computer skills, including internet navigation and Microsoft Word/Excel
  • Ability to comply with Lamar safety standards and work from ladders
  • Working knowledge of electrical and fabrication skills/techniques
  • Skill in reading technical documents (blueprints, diagrams)
  • General knowledge of Lamar, DOT, and OSHA safety regulations
  • Ability to safely use construction equipment for outdoor structure maintenance
  • Ability to climb and work at heights safely
  • Skill in documenting installations via photographs and written logs
  • Practical application of mathematics for construction/operations tasks
  • Skill in setting priorities based on job responsibilities

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Valid driver’s license (required)
  • Ability to complete OSHA 10-hour Construction course (required)
  • Preferred certifications: CDL/Non-CDL, Crane, Signal, Rigging, or LDD
  • Previous experience working at heights up to 200 ft. (preferred)

Physical Demands

  • Heavy lifting (up to 100 pounds)
  • Extensive bending, pushing, reaching, and stooping
  • Sitting less than 50% of the time; standing, walking, driving, and climbing regularly
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions and at heights up to 200 ft.
  • Visual acuity for reading, color distinction, depth perception, and peripheral vision

Pay

Hourly range of $21–$24, dependent on relevant experience and qualifications.

Schedule

  • Monday–Friday work schedule
  • Summer hours: 6:00 AM–2:30 PM
  • Winter hours: 7:00 AM–3:30 PM
