Construction Assistant Project Manager
TMG’s Assistant Project Manager must demonstrate the ability to manage the cradle-to-grave aspects of the entire life-cycle of a small commercial and/or institutional design/build project or to support the project management process for larger projects.
About the Role
The Assistant Project Manager position includes an understanding of process management and the ability to perform work contracted through various delivery methods, such as indefinite delivery indefinite quantity (IDIQ), Lump-Sum Contracting, Design/Build, and Fast Track contracts. The role primarily involves managing subcontractors but may also include self-performed construction activities that benefit the project.
Manages all aspects of project management for a small project with an approximate volume of $0-4 million or supports multiple small projects or a large project.
Responsibilities
- Create, update, and maintain project controls tracking the status of individual projects or task orders, changes, RFIs, shop drawings, submittals, quality controls, safety, financial performance, close-out, and other aspects.
- Analyze reports and prioritize tasks to prevent project delays.
- Work with subject matter experts to create, review, and process shop drawings and other submittals.
- Manage or support the change management process, including updating logs, routing documents, obtaining pricing, developing estimates, and writing change orders.
- Manage or support the estimating process by performing quantity surveys using digitizers, 3D modeling software, or paper-based processes.
- Establish, monitor, communicate, and maintain project schedules using contemporary scheduling software.
- Support physical layout and spatial coordination of work, including developing control line drawings and reviewing shop drawings.
- Negotiate or support the negotiation of contracts, subcontracts, and purchase orders.
- Maintain and produce reports using TMG and client-specific workflow software (e.g., TMG’s Project Center, USACE QCS/RMS, Prolog).
- Proactively identify and resolve issues that could lead to project problems.
- Ensure compliance with all contract terms and legal requirements governing the project.
- Provide timely interaction with supporting work groups such as accounting, HR, and ICS.
- Participate in project closeout activities to ensure timely completion.
- Assist with evaluating projects for constructability and value-engineering cost savings.

Requirements
- B.S. degree in Engineering or Construction Management with 2-3 years of experience with a commercial and/or industrial general contractor, or 5 years of directly related experience with no degree.
- Demonstrated experience in estimating and managing self-performed and subcontracted work.
- Basic to good understanding of construction means and methods for renovating commercial and institutional buildings and related site work.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets, email, and other construction industry software.
- Ability to lift and handle 50-pound objects.
- Fully mobile, capable of walking job sites, climbing ladders and stairs multiple times daily to inspect work and direct subcontractors.
- Clean driving record to facilitate transporting materials from suppliers when necessary.
- Current safety credentials, including OSHA 30, First Aid, and CPR (grace period of up to six months allowed for obtaining credentials).
- Current CQC certification issued by USACE/NAVFAC (grace period of up to six months allowed for obtaining credentials).
- Professional credentials: either Engineer in Training (EIT) or Associate Constructor (AC) in good standing.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
