Construction Area Engineer (Eastern)

Main Job Tasks

  • Affords assistance to the Construction Engineer in managing Construction Administration, Construction Inspection, and Material Testing/Quality Control services on construction projects.
  • Ensures contract administration adheres to specifications, resulting in consistent quality and timely project delivery.
  • Provides reports and communications regarding construction projects to the Construction Engineer.
  • Maintains oversight of construction progress, resolves issues, and coordinates construction plans and specifications.
  • Reviews consulting engineers' cost estimates and ensures compliance with codes and policies.
  • Assists in addressing questions during the bidding process and coordinating changes.
  • Attends pre-construction meetings, reviews change orders, and facilitates their processing.
  • Reviews contractor pay requests and monitors contractor performance.
  • Assists in scheduling and conducting final inspections and condition surveys.
  • Facilitates the finalization of construction projects within four months of completion.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Construction Engineer or Chief Engineer.

Typical Qualifications

  • Knowledge of civil engineering with a focus on highway construction (roadway, drainage, bridge construction and rehabilitation).
  • Skills in using construction documentation, measuring tools, and computer equipment.
  • Ability to understand and interpret various civil engineering principles, techniques, and related data.
  • Experience in comprehending and drawing valid engineering conclusions through statistical analysis.
  • Capable of cooperating with colleagues on group projects and handling sensitive contacts.
  • Quickly and efficiently responding to incidents affecting safety, contract completion, and delays.
  • Effectively managing multiple tasks simultaneously.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Ohio with at least seven (7) years of experience in highway engineering and construction.
  • Thorough knowledge of highway engineering, design, and construction techniques.
  • Strong understanding of various materials like soil, asphalt, and concrete, including testing methods.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in computer equipment and software, including Microsoft Project, Excel, and Word.
  • Experience with AASHTOWare Project and Primavera is preferred.
  • Valid State of Ohio driver's license required.
