Construction Accounting Manager

Responsibilities

  • Manage all construction-related accounting activities including revenue recognition, WIP reporting, and project cost tracking.
  • Ensure accurate percentage-of-completion accounting and project profitability analysis to provide financial insights.
  • Oversee contract and change order accounting processes to ensure proper documentation and compliance.
  • Partner with project managers and operations teams to review project financial performance and identify opportunities or risks.
  • Aid in forecasting project financial outcomes and analyzing profit margins for ongoing projects.
  • Serve as the primary accounting contact for joint ventures, ensuring compliance with partnership agreements and reporting requirements.
  • Cook up financial reporting and communications with joint venture partners to maintain transparency.
  • Analyze operating results and financial trends within the construction division to support strategic planning.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning activities to align financial strategies with company goals.
  • Identify enhancements to accounting processes to improve reporting efficiency and internal controls.
  • Develop standardized accounting procedures and documentation to ensure consistency and compliance.
  • Participate in ERP system upgrades and automation initiatives to adopt best practices.
  • Ensure full compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies in all financial activities.
  • Support external audits and tax filings through collaboration with the finance team.
  • Assist with treasury functions such as wire transfers, bank reconciliations, and ACH transactions related to construction finances.
  • Record month-end journal entries and facilitate smooth month-end closing processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or progression toward CPA preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including 2-3 years in construction accounting.
  • Strong understanding of construction-specific accounting principles such as WIP schedules, percentage-of-completion, and project costing.
  • In-depth knowledge of U.S. GAAP and month-end close procedures.
  • Experience with ERP systems, preferably NetSuite, is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work on-site in the Atlanta metro area and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
