Construction Accountant
About the role
Gilbane is seeking a mid-level Construction Accountant capable of fulfilling the project accounting and project financial forecasting requirements of small to mid-sized jobs. This role involves day-to-day interface with project management, client, and subcontractor personnel. While primarily office-based, the position requires travel to project job sites to meet with project teams and subcontractors.

Responsibilities
- Provides accounting support for project management teams
- Prepare and process owner pay applications and related billing documentation
- Reviews Work in Process (WIP) on assigned projects and thoroughly understands and explains variances and balances
- Ensures overall compliance with accounting policies and procedures
- Support a Senior Project Accountant in managing project-level financial reporting and documentation
- Process and track accounts payable and receivables, ensuring timely payments and collections
- Prepare, submit, and monitor vendor payments in coordination with project teams and clients
- Manages contracts, amendments, insurance, bonds, SOV, Files, and Company Policies
- Conduct timely and accurate review of requisitions and lien waivers
- Develop and maintain positive professional relationships both internally and externally
- Take ownership of assigned tasks and contribute to ad hoc financial activities as needed
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
- 5+ years with a Construction Management (CM) or General Contractor organization
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience
Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Proficient in CMiC (Preferred)
- Understanding of the overall project execution process, including budgeting, project forecasting, cost control, schedule, anticipated cost, and project profitability
- Familiarity with the GIG process
- Familiarity with construction and pricing components
- Familiarity with construction industry insurance products
- Ability to communicate effectively, listen to understand, and clearly convey information in all forms based on the audience
