About the role
The Constable is responsible for providing a safe, recovery environment that ensures respect and dignity using a recovery coaching approach. The Constable will demonstrate non-violent verbal de-escalation skills at all times and uses physical hold interventions as a last resort, to ensure safety and ensure involuntary guests remain on facility premises as indicated.
Responsibilities
- Provides a welcoming environment for individuals using the Recovery Coaching process.
- Utilizes “No Force First” philosophy, i.e., non-violent, verbal de-escalation skills.
- Provides the safe transport of individuals as directed.
- Safeguards the safety and security of individuals within the facility.
- Supports involuntary individuals during the evaluation process.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Documents relevant and required information and services provided.
- Keeps abreast of all federal and state regulations and laws and all Recovery Innovations policies and procedures as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
- Understands and adheres to Recovery Innovations compliance standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policies.
Cross Functional Collaboration
- Aids staff in reviewing and securing individual and visitor personal items.
Additional Duties
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of Peer Employment Training thus obtaining Certification as a Peer Support Specialist required.
- Prior law enforcement experience within the last five (5) years or prior employment as a Constable.
- Minimum of two (2) years of behavioral health experience, crisis environment preferred.
- Must meet and pass the minimum training and experience standards established by the Board of Examiners of Constables.
- Knowledge of all applicable code governing the power, duties and jurisdiction of a Constable.
- Knowledge of Title 16, 24-hour hold process.
- Ability to problem solve.
- Must be able to pass de-escalation training, as defined by state requirements.
- Driving Requirements: Must meet all requirements outlined in Recovery Innovations driving policy if driving is required for this position.
Skills

Physical Demands
- May include work close to the eyes and substantial motions of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, handling, finger dexterity; eye-hand-foot coordination, use of corrected vision; color vision; use of auditory senses.
- May be required to lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
Work Environment
- May work in an office environment or behavioral health facility.
- May have contact with individuals who are agitated and/or confused.
- Work may include travel throughout the geographic region.

Pay
$21 - $25 per hour
