Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick Honored as ASCO Congressional Champion for Cancer Care Award

From April 6–11, 2025, ASCO is hosting its 10th annual Advocacy Summit in Washington, D.C., with cancer care professionals meeting lawmakers on Capitol Hill to push for policies that improve cancer care and research. At the same time, ASCO is leading a Week of Action nationwide, encouraging members to join the movement from their communities. This Year, ASCO Is Urging Congress To Support federally funded cancer research by increasing and stabilizing funding for NIH, NCI, and ARPA-H in FY2026.

  • Streamline prior authorization by passing the Improving Seniors’ Timely Access to Care Act, reducing delays in Medicare Advantage.

  • Address oncology drug shortages by incentivizing U.S. manufacturing, enhancing FDA supply chain oversight, and improving shortage communication.

Brian Fitzpatrick: A Dedicated Public Servant

Rep. Fitzpatrick has been a key supporter of numerous bipartisan bills focused on ASCO’s advocacy priorities and has played a vital role in addressing the gaps in the current healthcare system. His commitment to improving the quality of care is evident through his actions. Beyond his impactful work on cancer care legislation in the previous congressional session, he has actively advocated for cancer research funding for both the NIH and NCI. Additionally, Rep. Fitzpatrick serves as co-chair of the House Cancer Caucus.

Before representing Pennsylvania’s First Congressional District, Brian Fitzpatrick spent 14 years as an FBI Special Agent and Federal Prosecutor, fighting corruption and supporting global counterterrorism efforts, including with U.S. Special Forces during Operation Iraqi Freedom. In Congress, Fitzpatrick serves on the Ways and Means Committee, chairs the Working Family Tax Team, and is Chairman of the CIA Subcommittee on the House Intelligence Committee. He co-chairs nearly 20 bipartisan caucuses, including the House Cancer Caucus, and actively supports policies to strengthen local economies and national security.

A licensed attorney, CPA, and EMT, Fitzpatrick has a broad leadership portfolio that spans a wide range of critical issues.
