About the role
The Configuration Specialist is responsible for configuring, maintaining, and supporting software applications to meet customer and business requirements. This role works closely with software developers, product managers, QA, and implementation teams to ensure systems are accurately configured, versioned, and deployed according to documented standards and client needs. The Configuration Specialist is detail-oriented, technically proficient, and comfortable working in a fast-paced software development environment with multiple releases and custom configurations. This position may require support during product releases or deployments.
Responsibilities
- Configure software applications, modules, and system settings based on requirements and specifications.
- Maintain configuration baselines across development, testing, and production environments.
- Ensure configuration changes are accurate, documented, and appropriately approved.
- Support software releases through configuration management and deployment activities.
- Maintain version control, configuration records, and release documentation.
- Collaborate with development and QA teams to ensure consistency across builds.
- Create and maintain configuration documentation, runbooks, and standard operating procedures.
- Ensure configuration practices align with internal standards, security requirements, and best practices.
- Work closely with Software Engineers, QA, DevOps, Product, and Customer Support teams.
- Assist implementation or customer-facing teams with configuration-related questions or troubleshooting.
- Analyze and resolve configuration-related issues in development, test, or production environments.
- Assist with root cause analysis and corrective actions for configuration errors.
- Identify opportunities to improve configuration processes, automation, and tools.
- Support continuous improvement efforts related to deployment and configuration management.
SaaS Environment
- Configure SaaS applications across development, staging, and production environments.
- Manage feature flags, environment variables, and tenant-specific settings.
- Support CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments.
- Coordinate configuration changes with Product, Engineering, QA, and DevOps.
- Troubleshoot configuration-related incidents and production issues.
- Maintain configuration documentation and change logs.
Embedded Software Environment
- Manage configuration files, build parameters, and firmware versions.
- Maintain configuration matrices across hardware models and releases.
- Support embedded build and release processes.
- Coordinate configuration changes with Hardware, Firmware, and QA teams.
- Ensure traceability of configuration changes for testing and audits.
- Document configuration standards and revision histories.

Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in a configuration, systems, or software support role.
- Experience working in a software development or SaaS environment.
- Familiarity with version control systems, such as Git, and release processes.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple configurations simultaneously.
- Experience with embedded or real-time software environments.
- Familiarity with build systems, firmware versioning, and release control.
- Strong attention to detail across hardware/software dependencies.
- Experience supporting regulated or high-reliability systems.
- Experience supporting enterprise or on-premises/hybrid software solutions.
- Strong understanding of environment management and change control.
- Familiarity with structured release and deployment processes.
- Experience working with customer-facing or implementation teams.
- Understanding of multi-tenant architectures and environment separation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent documentation and communication skills.
- Experience with configuration management tools or CI/CD pipelines.
- Understanding of Agile or Scrum development methodologies.
- Experience supporting customer-specific software configurations.
- Basic scripting or automation experience, such as PowerShell, Python, or similar.
- Experience with container orchestration systems, such as Kubernetes.
- Experience with MongoDB.
- Experience with ERP, traffic systems, financial systems, or large-scale enterprise platforms.
- Knowledge of ITIL, change management, or formal release governance.
- Experience with Linux-based embedded systems.
- Exposure to safety, compliance, or certification environments.
- Knowledge of cloud-based environments, such as AWS or Azure.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
