About the Role
The Configuration Management Specialist is responsible for maintaining the integrity, accuracy, and traceability of engineering documentation throughout the product lifecycle. This role collaborates closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Program Management to manage engineering changes, document revisions, and product configuration records. The specialist ensures all released documentation is accurate, controlled, and accessible to stakeholders while preventing manufacturing errors and supporting regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Manage engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials (BOMs), procedures, and related technical documentation throughout their lifecycle.
- Coordinate and process Revision Notices (RNs), Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), and other engineering change documentation.
- Review documentation for completeness, formatting, and compliance prior to release.
- Maintain document revisions, version history, and release status within document management systems.
- Ensure obsolete revisions are properly archived and clearly identified to prevent unauthorized use.
- Coordinate change approval workflows with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Program Management.
- Verify that proposed engineering changes have received all required approvals prior to implementation.
- Assist engineering teams in evaluating the downstream impact of proposed document and product changes.
- Maintain configuration records that support product traceability, regulatory compliance, and audit readiness.
- Support internal and external audits by providing configuration records and revision history.
- Develop and maintain configuration management procedures and work instructions.
- Generate reports and metrics related to engineering changes, document status, and configuration activities.
- Recommend process improvements that enhance efficiency while maintaining document integrity.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years' experience in configuration management or a related field.
- Experience with product lifecycle management, configuration identification, version control, and change control processes.
- Proficiency with tools associated with product management, including MS Office, Microsoft Project, and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Competency in MS SharePoint or similar collaboration/file management/version control systems.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build productive relationships.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with IFS ERP or similar ERP platforms.
- Experience in aerospace, defense, electronics, manufacturing, or another regulated industry.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001, AS9100, or similar quality management standards.
- Experience working with CAD-generated engineering documentation.
- Knowledge of engineering bills of materials (BOMs) and product structures.
Pay
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in New Jersey is $70,000 - $100,000 annually. Final offer amount may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal consistency.
