CONCRETE SPECIAL INSPECTOR - PT

About the Role

Bureau Veritas is seeking a driven Concrete Special Inspector to support immediate Building, Transportation, and Infrastructure projects across New York City. This role is designed for an early-career engineering professional with ICC and ACI certifications and hands-on field experience who is actively building expertise in concrete inspections, code compliance, construction materials testing, and quality assurance.

Responsibilities

• Perform field inspections of cast-in-place concrete, reinforced concrete, foundations, slabs, walls, and related structural elements to verify compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and NYC Building Code requirements.
• Conduct concrete sampling and cylinder preparation for compressive strength testing, ensuring alignment with ACI and ASTM standards.
• Monitor concrete placement activities, including batching, delivery, placement methods, consolidation, finishing, curing, and protection procedures.
• Witness required construction testing and special inspections in accordance with project specifications and regulatory requirements.
• Identify, document, and report non-conforming work and assist in coordinating corrective actions with contractors and project teams.
• Support senior inspectors and engineering staff in resolving field conditions and interpreting construction documents.
• Review construction drawings, specifications, reinforcement details, and concrete schedules to support inspection accuracy and field verification.
• Maintain organized inspection records, logs, testing documentation, and supporting compliance records.
• Communicate effectively with contractors, engineers, testing laboratories, and project stakeholders to ensure alignment on field conditions and inspection findings.
• Follow all jobsite safety protocols, including OSHA standards and project-specific safety requirements.
• Assist in maintaining project schedules by performing timely inspections aligned with construction activities.
• Participate in ongoing training and certification development to expand inspection capabilities and technical expertise.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field.
• ICC and ACI certifications preferred.
• 1–3 years of experience in construction inspection, materials testing, field engineering, or construction support roles on active job sites.
• Hands-on exposure to reinforced concrete construction activities including foundations, slabs, walls, and elevated decks.
• Familiarity with NYC Building Code, Chapter 17 exposure, and applicable industry standards.
• Proficiency in concrete sampling, cylinder preparation, and compressive strength testing procedures.
• Ability to review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and reinforcement details.
• Strong organizational skills for maintaining inspection records, logs, and testing documentation.
• Effective communication skills for coordinating with contractors, engineers, and project teams.
• Commitment to jobsite safety awareness, including OSHA standards and project-specific safety requirements.
• Willingness to participate in ongoing training and certification development.
