About the role

The Concrete Lab Technician supports daily operations by conducting laboratory quality control tests of concrete and construction materials in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, ACI standards, and state laws. This Level II Technician will play an instrumental role in developing departmental expertise and efficiency, including training and service orientation.

Responsibilities

• Work independently performing testing services, including laboratory testing, data recording, and observations of construction materials, especially concrete.
• Conduct test measurements, data reduction, and compilation of data.
• Perform laboratory evaluations of construction materials, including preparation, mixing, test specimen preparation, fresh properties testing, specimen demolding, clean-up, disposition, and curing.
• Take ownership of assigned testing methods and develop proficiency across an expanding range of laboratory testing procedures.
• Identify problems or potential issues and refer to higher-level staff for assistance.
• Complete work independently or as a team, with review by Project Managers and/or Engineers.
• Schedule tests and milestones for long-term tests.
• Communicate with and report test results to project managers.
• Provide basic on-the-job training to lower-level Technicians.
• Calibrate and maintain testing equipment in clean working order.
• Participate in continuing education, such as obtaining certifications, seminars, classes, and conferences.
• Conduct field, laboratory, and office activities in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as AET’s QA and Health and Safety Policies.
• Maintain the quality of service and work product.
• Properly use and maintain company instruments and equipment.
• Maintain a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record; some positions may require the use of a personal vehicle for company business.
• Coordinate with other staff to increase efficiency, productivity, and communication.
• Perform other tasks as necessary to meet departmental or company goals.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; two-year technical degree in a related field preferred.
• Minimum of 3+ years of related experience.
• Certifications required in certain specialty areas; ACI Strength Testing Technician Certificate or other certification preferred.
• Knowledge of AET’s services and the relationships between projects and departments.
• Demonstrated knowledge of company procedures, regulations, and standards governing the specialty area.
• Ability to interact successfully with a wide variety of people, work effectively within project teams, resolve issues constructively, and work independently.
• Capable of physical labor required, including:
  • Frequently lifting 30-60 pounds from the floor to 2 feet.
  • Frequently carrying 30-60 pounds for 10-30 feet.
  • Occasionally moving 60-100 pounds using a team lift, cart, or other safety precautions.
• Must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. without requiring visa sponsorship now or in the future.

• Knowledge of and skill in using equipment related to the project.
• Ability to accurately analyze and effectively communicate test data/results.
• Strong communication skills for working effectively with clients and coworkers.

Pay

Base compensation is expected to be in the range of $27.00 – $30.00 per hour based on skill set and experience.

Work Environment

This position primarily operates within a laboratory environment, involving sample preparation, materials handling, testing, and evaluation. The role includes exposure to dust, noise, laboratory chemicals, and testing equipment, requiring adherence to safety protocols and PPE. Routine use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers is also required.
