Concrete Finisher

Responsibilities

• Smooth and finish surfaces of poured concrete floors, walls, sidewalks, or curbs to specified textures using hand tools or power tools (floats, trowels, screeds).
• Signal concrete deliverer to position truck for pouring concrete.
• Move discharge chute of truck to direct concrete into forms.
• Spread concrete into inaccessible sections of forms using a rake or shovel.
• Level concrete to specified depth and workable consistency using handheld or power screed and floats.
• Smooth and shape surfaces of freshly poured concrete using straightedge, float, or power screed.
• Finish concrete surfaces using a power trowel or by wetting and rubbing with abrasive stone.
• Remove rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces using a power grinder, chisel, and hammer; patch holes with fresh concrete or epoxy compound.
• Mold expansion joints and edges using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge.
• Sprinkle colored stone chips, powdered steel, or coloring powder on concrete to produce prescribed finish.
• Produce rough concrete surface using a broom.
• Mix cement using a hoe or concrete-mixing machine.
• Direct sub-grade work, mixing of concrete, and setting of forms.
• Specialize in finishing steps and stairways.
• Break up and repair old concrete surfaces using pneumatic tools.
• Spread premixed cement over decks, inner surfaces, joints, and crevices of various substrata.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Working knowledge of grades, screeding, floating, and finishing concrete slabs, curbs, etc.
• Must own personal hand tools.
• Ability to operate trowel machines.

Physical Requirements

• Walk, stand, sit, stoop, kneel, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or tools, reach with hands and arms, talk, listen, hear, read, and see.
• Lift 80 to 100 pounds at least once daily or as necessary.
• Exposure to elements: heat, cold, rain, snow.
• Operate dangerous equipment: loaders, small cranes (boom trucks), trowel machines, powered hand tools.

Schedule

Monday – Friday, usually 6:30–7:00 AM to 3:00–3:30 PM unless directed by supervisor. Some Saturday and overtime work may be required.
