About the Venue

The Thomas M. Ryan Center, a state-of-the-art, multi-purpose facility, is located on the University of Rhode Island campus in scenic South County. Opened in June 2002, it serves as home to URI Men’s and Women’s Basketball programs and houses the URI football teams' locker room. The venue can seat 8,000 for basketball games and over 6,300 for concerts, family shows, lectures, and other community events. It is fully compliant with ADA specifications and attracts an audience of over 1.4 million people within a 40-mile radius.

Responsibilities

  • Enters and processes all sales via cash, debit, and credit card transactions using a cash register or other point of sale system in a retail environment with efficiency and accuracy.
  • Balances the cash register, makes change, and records purchases.
  • Serves customers in a friendly and efficient manner.
  • Provides excellent customer service.
  • Adheres to cash handling policies and procedures.
  • Maintains excellent customer service and a positive attitude towards guests, customers, clients, co-workers, and management.
  • Knows and understands the products being served.
  • Responsible for cleaning, stocking, and restocking workstations and displays.
  • Ensures that all work areas and equipment are clean, food products are properly stored, utensils are clean and put away, and the floor is swept and mopped at the end of the shift.
  • Checks out with Direct Supervisor and/or management to ensure the concession stand meets cleanliness standards.
  • Operates large-volume cooking equipment such as grills, fryolators, steamers, and ovens.
  • Maintains quality and production standards on all menu items.
  • Maintains sanitation, health, and safety standards in work areas.
  • Keeps work area clean and stocked throughout shift.
  • Show demonstrated ability to meet the company standard for excellent attendance.
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned by the manager.

Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate with employees, co-workers, volunteers, management staff, and guests in a clear, business-like, and respectful manner that focuses on generating a positive, enthusiastic, and cooperative work environment.
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented, fast-paced, event-driven environment.
  • If not already certified, you must be willing to take ServSafe Alcohol training within 15 days of date of hire (at our expense).
  • Requires occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavy objects.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as a productive member of a team.
  • Capable of working a flexible schedule and extended hours, including but not limited to working early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • The schedule is event-based and must be available for 90% of scheduled events, as well as some mandatory shifts.
  • Proven ability to work well with all levels of management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Pay

This position pays an hourly rate of $16.00-$17.00.

Schedule

The schedule is event-based and must be available for 90% of scheduled events, as well as some mandatory shifts.
