About the role

Conduct computer forensic examinations and criminal investigations of child exploitation, computer fraud, computer trespass, identity theft, and other crimes within Virginia’s Computer Crimes Act. Work extensively in conjunction with federal, state and local law enforcement, as well as computer service and Internet service providers. Speak to public groups and interact with law enforcement, state prosecutors and technology-related professionals on issues related to the Internet and computer crimes on a regular basis. Investigations are statewide and at times may cross state borders; some overnight travel required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct computer forensic examinations and criminal investigations of child exploitation, computer fraud, computer trespass, identity theft, and other crimes within Virginia’s Computer Crimes Act.
  • Undergo appropriate computer forensic examination training.
  • Work extensively with federal, state, and local law enforcement, computer service providers, and Internet service providers.
  • Speak to public groups and interact with law enforcement, state prosecutors, and technology-related professionals on Internet and computer crime issues.

Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Minimum of one year of law enforcement experience conducting computer forensics and criminal investigations, including computer crime and/or child exploitation investigations (preferable).
  • Major course work in digital forensics will be considered.
