About the role

The Computer Engineer/Scientist will assist in providing operational medicine and human performance surveillance support on a variety of operational, readiness, human performance, and health outcomes, as well as program evaluation and effectiveness analysis for programs within the operational or human performance domains.

Schedule

40 hours per week. Normal work schedule is 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday; however, flexibility may be required to support specific tasks, including after-hours or weekend work. Period of performance: 30 September 2026 – 29 September 2027.

Pay

$45.00 per hour.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support to the FES Division Chief
  • Review code developed by operational analysts supporting USAFSAM data analysis and decision support projects
  • Support technical planning meetings within the organization and across AFRL
  • Work with database managers, operational research analysts, and subject matter experts to design, code, test, and operationalize aeromedical and operational medical decision support projects
  • Develop work plans and assist with program management of software development efforts
  • Lead development, improvement, and maintenance of data and models
  • Ensure discovered problems are clearly defined and communicated; employ corrective actions or mitigate risk to support project execution
  • Design and maintain secure data pipelines across accredited platforms, transitioning between systems as study phases progress:
    • Immediate Focus (DAF Palantir Envision): Utilize SQL within Pipeline Builder and Python within Envision's Code Workspace to structure, clean, and analyze baseline personnel cohorts
    • DHA Phase Integration (using AVHE access): Transition to SAS Enterprise Guide (EG) within the Augmented Virtual Healthcare Environment (AVHE)
  • Serve collaboratively on model development to elevate analytical capabilities
  • Assist with the technical implementation of the AI evaluation framework

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent
  • Software development skills and experience with DoD verification and validation methodologies
  • Experience with agile development methodologies and tools supporting agile practices (e.g., Envision)
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with development in multiple coding environments, including:
    • Windows, SASS, SQL, Linux, Python, C++, Matlab, UML, SysML
    • MBSE tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler
  • Experience with systems thinking and a systems approach to problem definition and solution
  • Experience writing technical documentation based on customer specifications, including:
    • Software Architecture Documents
    • System Design Documents
    • Use cases, system topologies, test plans
    • Verification and validation documentation
    • Deployment plans and user documentation

Highly Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with both C++ and Python
  • Experience with model-based systems engineering tools
  • Experience with high-performance computing environments
