Computer Engineer
The Opportunity: CACI is currently looking for a mid-level Computer Engineer to join our team supporting the Office of Naval Research (ONR) for the Department of Defense. Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and test firmware and embedded C software for microcontrollers (e.g., RP2040 architectures) and single-board computers.
- Implement communication protocols (e.g., I2C, SPI, UART, Ethernet) to reliably interface with sensors and custom hardware.
- Develop and integrate software for autonomy, control algorithms, and edge computing on robotics platforms.
- Utilize frameworks like ROS (Robot Operating System) to integrate custom code with COTS/GOTS hardware to support fast-paced project requirements.
- Perform hands-on benchtop debugging, code flashing, and software-to-hardware integration alongside electrical and mechanical engineers to build functional prototypes.
- Ensure that a level 2 Technical Data Package (TDP) is prepared and delivered for assigned projects that reach the prototype or low-rate production stages of development. The contractor shall assist in the development of the TDP.
- Create and maintain basic briefs for various prototype devices and prepare and deliver Installation Plans and drawings, as well as Test Plans for functional, performance, and environmental testing of prototypes.
- Validate hardware integration performance using approved industry and site-specific construction codes and policies.
- Travel to various Continental United States (CONUS) locations (up to 25%) to support live test events and operational evaluations. Provide essential on-site technical support, real-time troubleshooting, and data collection for prototype systems under test.
- Interact with and coordinate prototype and low-rate installation and/or production with external parties tasked with producing units for assigned projects.
- Provide routine status updates and communicate urgent matters involving production issues to management and other stakeholders in a timely manner via phone, email, or other normal communication methods.
- Purchase material for the government as needed to support prototype and low-rate production for assigned projects.
Requirements
- ABET-accredited Bachelor’s Degree in computer engineering or a similar engineering discipline.
- 0-3 years of experience in a position requiring engineering expertise.
- Eligibility for a SECRET clearance.
- Proficiency in CAD software and knowledge of simulation and analysis tools.
- Excellent technical writing and data presentation skills.
- Track record of complex problem-solving aptitude.
- Ability to think analytically and independently.
- Team-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in written form.
- Willingness to learn new skills.
- Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.
Qualifications
- 5-10 years of Computer Engineering experience or other related technical field.
- Existing experience producing civil systems and/or prototypes for projects on IAC MAC task orders.
- Experience in a civil engineering position working with IAC MAC customers.
- Experience in DoD customer relations and civil engineering.
- Active minimum Secret clearance.

Pay
The proposed salary range for this position is $52,100 - $104,400. There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications.
