Computed Tomography Tech I or II - CT Scan (M-F 2p - 10:30p)

This is an open-pooled position. Applicants' education and experience will be considered, and the position may be filled at a lower or higher level as appropriate.

About the Role

The CT Technologist positions work independently to complete a variety of routine to complex diagnostic CT procedures, including common and specialized exams. These roles provide direct assistance to physicians with diagnostic and special CT procedures, deliver exceptional patient care, and adhere to CT exam and radiation dose standards for optimal patient safety and customer service. The CT Technologist II serves as a mentor and trainer to CT Technologist I and students.

Responsibilities

• Promotes a positive work environment and collaborates with all members of the patient care team.
• Uses peer-to-peer accountability toward department goals for retention and employee engagement.
• Utilizes verbal, nonverbal, and written communication to achieve mutual understanding.
• Proactively responds to patient needs and performs CT, CTA, CTP, and interventional biopsy procedures, including common and specialized exams of moderate to high complexity.
• Optimizes protocols for better patient care, image quality, and patient experience (positioning, physiology, procedure preparation, and technical factors).
• Assists physicians during diagnostic or special procedures, including sterile technique.
• Utilizes AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank You) and "Manage Up" techniques when speaking to patients and family members at an age-appropriate level.
• Practices radiation safety and ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable).
• Follows safety standards and maintains proper sterile techniques for procedures.
• Complies with job role, department, and hospital safety standards, practices, and policies.
• Participates in waste-reduction initiatives (WASTE walks) and supports department LEAN projects.
• Reports near misses and inputs errors into the hospital patient safety reporting system to improve processes and identify trends.
• Performs imaging equipment quality control (QC) to ensure safe working order prior to use.
• Utilizes critical thinking skills to observe and proactively address patient reactions (e.g., medications, contrast media) or potential outcomes.
• Provides accurate and complete documentation of patient procedures and enters charges at the time of service.
• Uses resources efficiently and ensures personal timecard accuracy.
• Participates in or leads department projects, shared governance activities, or special initiatives.
• Seeks opportunities to expand learning beyond baseline competencies with a focus on continual development.
• For CT Technologist II: Guides and mentors CT Technologist I and clinical students to build confidence in skills, knowledge, and abilities.
• For CT Technologist II: Identifies LEAN opportunities and contributes to meeting department and hospital targets for quality and safety.
• For CT Technologist II: Assists with implementation and education of department-based safety initiatives and standards of practice.
• For CT Technologist II: Fosters a positive and constructive teaching environment.

Requirements

CT Technologist I:

• Associate of Applied Science or graduate of an accredited radiography program (individuals who graduated prior to 2015 are exempt from the Associate’s Degree requirement).
• Graduate of an accredited computed tomography program (including UTMB cross-training program).
• No experience required.

CT Technologist II:

• Associate of Applied Science.
• Graduate of an accredited radiography program.
• Graduate of an accredited computed tomography program (including UTMB cross-training program).
• Proficient in all CT, CTA, CT Perfusion, CT Cardiac, and CT Interventional procedures.
• 3+ years of experience.

Qualifications

All below required for both positions:

• American Registry for Radiologic Technologists (ARRT-R).
• American Registry for Diagnostic Computed Tomography (ARRT-CT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB-CT), or must be eligible and obtain within 6 months of hire.
• Texas Medical Board certification (MRT).
• American Heart Association BLS.
