Compounding Pharmacy Technician

Job Summary

The Compounding Technician is responsible for staging and preparing all components for drug production in a clean-room environment. Technicians may also engage in compounding low to high-risk sterile products and filling patient orders, as authorized and under the supervision of the compounding pharmacist.

Job Activities and Responsibilities

• Knowledge of and following applicable Standard Operating Procedures
• Compounding low to high-risk sterile products and filling patient orders, as authorized and under the supervision of the compounding pharmacist
• Close attention to detail in maintaining standards for potency, quality, purity, integrity, sterility, and endotoxin content
• Compounding medication, filling and labeling prescriptions, and pre-packaging bulk compounded medications in anticipation of prescription orders
• Maintaining inventory levels, receiving new inventory, maintaining MSDS and Certificates of Analysis, and performing daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning using appropriate disinfectants and techniques
• Supporting daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning of the environment with appropriate disinfectants and techniques
• Performing environmental monitoring and validation testing according to policies and procedures
• Successfully completing initial and ongoing competency evaluations as required in the policies and procedures
• Working under the supervision of a pharmacist

Minimum Qualifications

• Registered with the State Board of Pharmacy
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
• Strong aseptic technique and hand-eye coordination
• Ability to work quickly and accurately under time and volume constraints
• Physical requirements including proficient computer use, sitting or standing for extended periods, effective communication skills, and the ability to lift up to 40 pounds as needed
• 20/20 vision (with or without corrective aids) for visual inspection of drug products, in accordance with legal requirements
