Compounding Pharmacy Technician

$19.00 - $25.13 per hour

About the role

The primary purpose of this position is to create and prepare formulations of prescription medicine, including liquid medications, ensuring customers receive the correct medications as quickly as possible under the supervision of the Pharmacists. This role involves assisting customers in person and over the phone, submitting refill requests, handling insurance claims, filing prescription paperwork, filling prescriptions, maintaining the pharmacy, and providing exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities

• Prepare compounds in accordance with USP standards
• Perform non-sterile compounding and proper handling of all manufactured chemicals according to USP chapter 795
• Accurately count, pour, mix, weigh, and prepare compounded medications
• Use personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with current SOPs and hazardous drug control plan (HDCP)
• Operate and maintain compounding equipment (mortar/pestles, capsule machine, ointment mill, balance, biosafety cabinets, glassware, etc.)
• Maintain logs: freezer, balance calibrations, sterile hood, humidity, filter logs, environmental monitoring logs, and temperature logs
• Handle hazardous drugs in accordance with USP chapter 800, including proper handling, storage, transport, waste, facility maintenance, cleanup, and spill management procedures
• Follow established departmental and store policies and procedures
• Ensure the pharmacy is clean, sanitized, well-maintained, and meets company standards of appearance
• Deliver excellent customer service while assisting customers at the pharmacy counter, drive-thru, and over the phone
• Enter new prescriptions into the system and file prescription paperwork
• Submit refill requests to doctors over the phone and electronically
• Submit insurance claims and handle insurance inquiries
• Cashier for pharmacy customers
• Receive and stock product for the pharmacy
• Remove product from shelves according to Harmons’ expiration date policies
• Complete assigned tasks efficiently and in a timely manner
• Set a professional and positive example to others
• Teach, mentor, and educate pharmacy technicians
• Communicate effectively and work closely with the Pharmacy Manager
• Ensure company standards for safety, sanitation, and productivity are maintained
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Requirements

• Current Utah Pharmacy Technician License
• Willingness to become trained and certified in compounding at Harmons discretion
• High school diploma or GED preferred; one year of pharmacy compounding experience or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training
• Wide range of knowledge in medical and pharmacy terminology, effects of prescription drugs, etc.
• Basic math and computer skills
• Ability to interpret policies and procedures
• Excellent organization and planning skills
• Strong communication skills, including verbal and listening skills
• Ability to professionally and appropriately handle conflict

Work Environment

The work environment is generally safe and comfortable within the pharmacy, with possible infrequent exposure to hot, cold, and wet conditions. The role requires:
