Composite Technician B - Weekend Day Shift
About the role
L3Harris is seeking a Composite Manufacturing Technician to join our team at our state-of-the-art Advanced Manufacturing Facility (AMF) North in Huntsville, AL. This position works 12 hours per day, 3 days a week (Friday - Sunday 6am - 6:30pm).
Responsibilities
- Produce parts, components and final assemblies using composite fabrication, compression molding, metal fabrication, modification, checkout, re-work, quality testing, and assembly utilizing detailed work instructions, schematics, diagrams, layouts or manufacturing test development or diagnostic equipment.
- Prepare various components for lay-up, filament winding, cure and post cure using cured and uncured rubber materials and adhesives.
- Operate various machinery and shop equipment including ovens, autoclaves, manual lathes, CNC lathes, CNC milling centers, manual mills, boring mills, presses, furnaces, mixers, grinders, swages, paint booths, fume hoods and automated welding equipment.
- Fabricate and assemble piece parts into completed sub-assemblies using assembly tools.
- Perform vacuum bagging and related processes for fabrication and curing composite parts.
- Complete structural bonding operations using film adhesives, core materials, and adhesives.
- Build complex layups individually and in small groups.
- Insulate mandrels and composite cases.
- Cast, cure and machine sand mandrels.
- Facilitate and conduct OJT training of technicians as required.
- Work with management and supervision to meet critical deadlines.
- Produce development hardware to support research and development programs.
- Troubleshoot processes and identify, modify and/or escalate out of control processes and production escapes.
- Cook with maintenance, supervision and/or engineers in the set-up and calibration of equipment.
- Participate in preventative maintenance activities.
- Clean machines, equipment, and work area according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Support safety initiatives and adhere to 5S+1 standards.
Qualifications
- Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 4 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience.
