Components Standards, Engineer 2

Join the Component Standards Engineering team at Southern California Edison (SCE) and help build a better tomorrow. In this role, you’ll apply your technical skills to develop and update design and construction standards that align with SCE’s strategic direction in the transmission, distribution, and substation space. The team supports two key functions: maintaining standards for efficient design, construction, inspection, maintenance, and operation of SCE’s infrastructure, and incorporating new materials to advance strategic roadmaps such as public/worker safety, wildfire mitigation, reliability, Pathway 2045, and climate risk. You’ll collaborate across SCE to gather stakeholder input, ensuring robust standards that enhance the safety, reliability, and sustainability of our grid.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections and evaluations of electrical equipment and systems to ensure proper installation, troubleshoot issues, and recommend improvements.
• Conduct system event assessments and root cause analyses (RCA) for equipment failures, implement corrective actions, and confirm mitigation plans.
• Prepare technical reports, documentation, calculations, and design plans for projects of increasing scope and complexity.
• Perform independent engineering work with guidance on evaluation, selection, and adaptation of engineering techniques and criteria.
• Conduct power system modeling and analyses using software tools; stay informed on technology advancements, market trends, and relevant standards.
• Oversee day-to-day preventive maintenance to ensure equipment operates according to Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards.
• Validate and qualify infrastructure-supporting processes throughout their lifecycle.
• Develop engineering facility designs, including electrical system sizing, one-line diagrams, and equipment selection.
• Assist in developing new technology and standards strategies, integrating them into business operations to improve power system functionality and customer service.
• Act as a project sponsor with technical assistance to address project modifications and move projects through their lifecycle.
• Ensure the protection of SCE’s physical, financial, and cybersecurity assets, and manage sensitive data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a scientific/technical/math field.
• Two or more years of experience performing engineering work in operations, production, construction, or maintenance environments.
• Valid Class C Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience as an engineer in an electric utility.
• Strong knowledge of distribution, transmission, or substation systems.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• Results-oriented, team-focused, and adept at making informed decisions while staying current with relevant technology and innovation.
• Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders, peers, and senior management.

Additional Information

• This is a hybrid role requiring in-office work at an SCE facility for a set number of days, with remote work options for the remaining days. Employees must reside in California.
• The primary work location is Pomona, CA, with up to 25% travel throughout the SCE service territory.
• Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
