About the role
United Petroleum Equipment is hiring a Petroleum Compliance Technician to support fuel system inspections, calibration, and compliance work for commercial fueling customers. This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, comfortable traveling daily, and interested in becoming a trusted compliance resource for petroleum equipment customers.
Responsibilities
- Perform petroleum compliance inspections for commercial fueling customers.
- Support required 1-year and 3-year inspections.
- Complete calibration work on fueling systems and related equipment.
- Perform line sing and related equipment sing.
- Inspect fuel system components and document results accurately.
- Identify compliance issues, equipment concerns, leaks, or repair needs.
- Communicate findings clearly to internal teams and customers.
- Help generate follow-up repair or service work when compliance issues are found.
- Maintain accurate service records, results, and compliance documentation.
- Travel throughout Michigan, Northern Indiana, and Ohio for customer visits.
- Return to the Battle Creek office / home base most evenings when possible.
Requirements
- Mechanical, technical, service, inspection, compliance, petroleum, fueling, or equipment background.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow inspection procedures.
- Comfortable using sing equipment, tools, tablets, and documentation systems.
- Able to communicate clearly with customers and internal team members.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Comfortable driving daily across a regional territory.
- Able to work independently after training.
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds and work safely around fueling equipment and active sites.
- Weights and Measures Certification from Department of Agriculture.
- Willingness to obtain required Michigan certifications for calibration and petroleum compliance work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Petroleum compliance, fuel system inspection, or fuel equipment service experience.
- Michigan calibration certification.
- Line sing equipment certification.
- Experience working with Estabrook Testing System.
- Experience with fuel dispensers, tanks, product lines, sumps, or leak detection systems.
- Experience performing state-required petroleum inspections.
- Experience with EPA / state compliance documentation.
- Experience using manufacturer-specific line sing or calibration equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting ability and comfort identifying repair needs in the field.

- You may be a strong fit if you have experience with: Fuel system inspections, Dispenser calibration, Line sing, Leak detection, Petroleum compliance documentation, Fuel tanks, product lines, and sumps, Commercial fueling equipment, Field service work, Mechanical troubleshooting, State inspection processes, Customer-facing technical service.
