Job Summary

A technical learning position for Compliance Services working closely with Compliance Managers, Senior Technical Managers, and Compliance Consultants to learn all aspects of the service area, which includes field inspections, technical reporting, plan preparation, and quality of the work product. This requires learning the regulations associated with USEPA, OSHA, and state environmental and health & safety regulatory agencies. Requirements could include air permitting, wastewater permitting, storm water permitting, storm water pollution prevention plans, spill prevention plans, auditing, preparation of Tier II and Form R reports, preparation of compliance monitoring reports, air emission inventories, health & safety plans, among other regulatory programs.

Essential Functions

  • Learn existing regulations and develop strategies to ensure client compliance
  • Complete assigned projects under the guidance of a Compliance Manager, Senior Technical Manager or Compliance Consultant to achieve established objectives and deadlines
  • Maintain project momentum by communicating with Compliance Manager, Senior Technical Manager or Compliance Consultant on project questions, information gaps or other project-related issues
  • Communicate with Compliance Manager, Senior Technical Manager and Compliance Consultant on project status and regulatory issues of related projects
  • Prepare compliance reports, update plans, conduct sampling activities, etc.
  • Prepare Tier II and Form R reports, various regulatory applications, and storm water and spill prevention, control, and countermeasure plans
  • Some positions will receive visible emissions training to monitor stack testing on an as-needed basis
  • Communicate with client as requested by Compliance Consultant
  • Aid Compliance Consultant in maintaining relationships with core and transitional clients
  • Participate in all Project Team activities
  • Achieve a billable goal (bill time to projects for work performed)

Job Specifications

  • Education: B.S. in environmental science or related field
  • Recommended Experience: 0 – 1 years of experience in environmental consulting
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Learn job-related material primarily through verbal and written instruction, training, reading, researching and observation in an on-the-job setting; Perform mathematical calculations; Perform technical research on projects; Collect, record, and evaluate scientific data; Utilize administrative staff effectively; Document and organize while working on multiple projects

Additional Requirements

  • All positions require the completion of a successful background check, motor vehicle review, and pre-employment drug screen.
  • This position requires the use of a personal or company vehicle on company business.
  • Driving positions require a current, valid driver’s license and maintaining an acceptable driving record. Must be physically capable of operating vehicles safely.
  • Employees must maintain an active cell phone to ensure availability for work-related coordination.

Physical Requirements

  • Calibrate and use various types of field equipment
  • Accurately measure and document distances using a tape measure or other measuring device
  • Work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
  • Walk through various sized, client sites to perform inspections
  • Work in industrial settings that can be dark and dusty and may have elevated noise levels
  • Work around a variety of industrial hazards that require awareness and safety protocols
  • Climb ladders or steps where equipment is located, to reach objects on shelves, or to monitor machinery and equipment
  • Ability to wear noise protection and safety glasses
  • Some positions require the ability to wear a dust mask
  • Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others

Job Context

  • 50 - 75% office (controlled environment)
  • 25 - 50% field/site visit travel (environmental job hazards)
  • This position requires travel to various client locations including day trips within state or a neighboring state, resulting in longer workdays; and out-of-state resulting in multiple days and overnights.
  • Long distance drives and air travel may be required.
  • All company related travel expenses are reimbursed per company policy.
  • Shift work, weekend work and holiday work may be required on an as-needed basis.
