About the role
The Compliance Specialist will implement and execute strategies to ensure accurate compliance tracking and reporting for the Alternatives to Incarceration team at Brooklyn Justice Initiatives. This role will also assist all Brooklyn Justice Initiatives with compliance concerns, audits, and data collection and entry.
Responsibilities
- Conduct routine audits of Brooklyn Justice Initiatives programs, including compliance and internal quality assurance reviews;
- Track participant engagement and progress in accordance with program requirements and grant deliverables;
- Prepare and distribute written compliance and non-compliance reports to judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, clerks, and other court stakeholders;
- Generate daily and weekly compliance memoranda detailing participant mandates, court dates, and case outcomes;
- Maintain accurate participant information in electronic databases, including mandate details, court outcomes, and other required program data;
- Review participant records, compliance reports, and database entries for accuracy and completeness, providing guidance and technical assistance to staff to resolve discrepancies and improve data quality;
- Support data collection, entry, verification, and reporting efforts;
- Work with the Manager of Court Operations and Resource Coordinators to ensure data accuracy and consistency across programs;
- Partner with the Data Analytics & Applied Research team to strengthen quality assurance practices and improve data integrity;
- Review internal trends and practices to support program evaluation and operational improvements;
- Track warrant and return-on-warrant activity and collaborate with program staff to facilitate participant re-engagement and support successful compliance with court mandates;
- Collaborate with Resource Coordinators, managers, and program staff to resolve mandate discrepancies, obtain court outcomes, and address compliance-related issues;
- Coordinate across BJI programs to monitor and support participants involved in multiple initiatives, including Alternatives to Incarceration programs;
- Aid in the development and implementation of new programs, protocols, initiatives, and interventions;
- Support staff onboarding and training initiatives;
- Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and project events, including occasional after-hours events with advance notice;
- Additional tasks as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and at least one year of experience working in a criminal court setting and/or human service field, or 3-4 years’ experience in the criminal justice field as an equivalency;
- Exceptional capacity to be detail-oriented in a fast-paced environment;
- Demonstrated ability to identify discrepancies, maintain data integrity, and communicate corrective actions to staff in a professional, collaborative, and solutions-oriented manner;
- Strong Microsoft Excel, organization, and communication skills, in addition to strong writing ability.

- Candidates must have the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds in a culturally responsive manner. Professional demeanor and ability to communicate appropriately with judges and other court personnel is required.

Pay
The compensation range for this position is $52,000 - $65,400 and is commensurate with experience.
