Compliance Inspector III

About the role

The Construction Industries Board is seeking a Compliance Inspector III/Field Investigator (Mechanical Trades) to enforce the licensing act of mechanical trade, work with local public and private groups to coordinate and educate on topics of licensing and code standards, and gather information, prepare reports, and testify at hearings on licensing violations.

The successful candidate will be based in Oklahoma, likely in the SW Oklahoma region, and will be required to travel extensively throughout the state, with some overnight travel required. A current, valid Oklahoma driver’s license and reliable transportation are necessary.

Responsibilities

• Enforce mechanical licensing act by investigating licensing and code standards, including travel to and physically inspecting construction work sites, receiving and investigating complaints, issuing necessary citations, and interpreting mechanical codes and laws
• Work cooperatively with city inspectors, government entities, private interests, contractors, and professional clientele to offer information and education on responsibilities, role, and services of the Construction Industries Board
• Inspect and investigate construction sites to ensure compliance with applicable licensing laws and adopted statewide construction codes
• Meet with other state agencies and local governments to compare and coordinate activities of mutual interest and make oral presentations and reports
• Attend meetings of trade-related organizations to network with other investigators and inspectors and develop consistency in job performance
• Plan, organize, and manage time and travel in relation to investigations, complaints, and inspections in assigned counties
• Enter information into computer databases/logs, prepare summaries, obtain supervisory approval of citation, present citation to proper hearing committee, and testify at trade hearings

Requirements

• Current, unexpired license as a mechanical journeyman or mechanical contractor in accordance with the Oklahoma Mechanical Licensing Laws and Industry Regulations for a minimum of five years
• Knowledge, skills, and abilities listed in the job description, including comprehensive knowledge of investigative methods and techniques, state-adopted construction codes, and technical standards of mechanical theories
• Absence of serious violation or disciplinary action under any Oklahoma licensing act or industry regulations within the last five years

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be required to obtain both a national certification (in each residential and commercial mechanical inspection) and a State of Oklahoma license (as a Residential Mechanical Inspector and as an Unlimited Mechanical Inspector) within one year of hire.

Preferred qualifications include an unlimited classification involving industrial, commercial, and residential HVAC/R, and completion of a Committee-approved mechanical (HVAC) vocational education program or an accredited mechanical vocational program.
