Stay informed on local, state, and federal labor laws across the U.S. and Canada; assess operational impact and partner cross-functionally to implement compliant workflows.
Compliance Responsibilities
- Lead full-cycle policy updates for U.S. and Canadian employee handbooks and state/provincial appendices, aligning company practices with evolving legislation
- Audit pre-hire and onboarding compliance across retail and corporate locations, ensuring adherence to Form I-9 verification, FCRA rules, state-mandated wage notices, and required disclosures
- Partner with Payroll and Field Leadership to support wage and hour compliance, including timekeeping practices, meal/rest break rules, minor labor laws, and final pay requirements
- Provide guidance on internal processes for employee safety and medical accommodations (ADA, workers' compensation, leave of absence return-to-work) to minimize risk and ensure equitable outcomes
- Partner with HR Business Partners to oversee tracking for mandatory state/provincial trainings, conduct regular compliance audits, and maintain statutory record retention schedules
- Enforce standard operating procedures across field retail, head offices, and distribution center to eliminate operational gaps and compliance risks
Employee Relations Responsibilities
- Act as a trusted advisor to retail field leadership, providing strategic guidance on sensitive and complex employee relations matters
- Lead and manage high-risk employee relations cases from intake through resolution, ensuring a fair, consistent, and compliant approach
- Coach and upskill HRBPs and Field leadership on managing low-to-mid-level ER matters and executing thorough, compliant investigations
- Partner with Heads of People Partnering, Payroll Manager, and legal counsel (as needed), on high-risk employee relations matters to deliver policy-aligned, risk-mitigated outcomes for AllSaints and John Varvatos
- Develop and deliver training programs for retail and department leaders, based on identified employee relations trends and risk management needs
- Analyze ER metrics and compliance audit trends to identify root causes, mitigate risk, and recommend data-driven enhancements to overall People & Culture strategy
- Establish clear metrics, compliance SLAs, and standardized investigation templates to drive consistent, repeatable outcomes across both brands
- Contribute to leadership development efforts, including coaching and supporting performance management processes
Required Skills
- Strong drive to establish consistent compliance standards and standard operating procedures across multi-unit operations within AllSaints and John Varvatos
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and influencing abilities—skilled at building trust and partnerships across all levels of the organization
- Meticulous attention to detail with an uncompromising commitment to accuracy in investigations, recordkeeping, and policy drafting
- Self-motivated and comfortable operating independently; takes direct ownership of complex ER cases and compliance projects from intake through completion with urgency
- Proven track record of leading multi-site workplace investigations and resolving sensitive employee relations matters using an objective, fact-based approach grounded in labor law, documentation, and sound judgment
- Strong project and time management skills, with the ability to juggle competing priorities, meet deadlines, and drive multiple projects to completion in a fast-paced environment
- Confident, innovative, and always seeking smarter, better ways to work
- Open to occasional travel as needed by the business (estimated up to 10–15%)
Experience & Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in human resources, with a minimum of 3 years specializing in employee relations, employment law, and compliance
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required; SHRM/PHR or formal workplace investigation training a plus
- Prior experience providing HR support to multiple worksites, and varying levels within the organization
- Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. and Canadian multi-state employment laws and compliance, with direct experience navigating California, New York, and Toronto jurisdictions
- Background working in partnership with cross-functional HR teams, field leadership, and department managers
- Track record of coaching and advising managers on performance management, progressive discipline, and conflict resolution
- Proficiency in Google Workspace and HRIS systems
Pay & Schedule
This is a full time salaried position available at a rate of: $110K - $120K USD/Yearly.
