Reporting to the Unit Manager, this role focuses on direct handling of multi-line commercial claims including Auto, General Liability, and Construction Defect claims.
Responsibilities
- Investigate and evaluate coverage, liability, and damages issues for commercial insurance claims.
- Handle claim evaluation, establish or recommend adequate reserves, manage litigation, and resolve cases in alignment with the Company’s and Client’s Strategic Vision.
- Monitor, review, and coordinate activities involving multi-line commercial claims, including analysis of coverage issues, reserving, and claim resolution.
- Review loss notices; confirm and interpret policy coverages; establish adequate reserves; and investigate claims involving primary, umbrella, and excess policies.
- Ensure proper file setup, reserving, handling, and application of company procedures.
- Manage litigation with Preferred Counsel under Alternative Fee Arrangements or other defense fee structures.
- Pursue and maximize risk transfer opportunities by contract or insurance policy language.
- Assign and manage work of defense counsel, expert witnesses, and interface with peer carriers, including design and execution of defense and indemnity contracts.
- Evaluate liability and damages, and participate in settlement negotiations.
- Develop claims handling strategy, including defense coordination, litigation strategy, budgets, and expense control.
- Record claim information and report financial and statistical data to management.
- Maintain diary control, investigate, analyze, and report to ensure proper reserves reflect the company’s exposure.
- Report to the Reinsurance Department to assist in providing notice to reinsurers and recovering amounts when payment exceeds retention.
- Handle a large volume of diverse and dynamic claims effectively.
- Make empowered decisions within job description and authority; seek guidance where appropriate.
- Develop creative solutions to real-time business problems or opportunities; take calculated risks.
- Identify areas for growth and improvement, working with the team to implement process and technical enhancements.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2+ years’ experience in claims or a related field.
- Four-year college degree or equivalent work experience.
Schedule
Travel as required, based upon business needs.

The role requires timely production of thorough, accurate work using standard office equipment such as phones, computers, copiers/printers, and filing cabinets. Noise level is moderate.
