Complex Care Personal Assistant – York – D947

About the role

A gentleman with motor neurone disease living near York is looking for one or two dedicated, positive, kind and experienced personal assistants to support him in his family home. He is wheelchair‑ and ventilator‑dependent and uses Eyegaze for communication. The role involves providing a safe environment, companionship, sharing great moments and creating memories to help him live life to the fullest. The 24‑hour support can be delivered by a single PA or split between two PAs (12 hours each), and a vehicle is available on a 1:1 basis.

Responsibilities

• All aspects of personal care
• Hoisting
• Ventilator management
• Passive movement
• Medication administration
• Meal preparation
• Support with eating and drinking
• Basic domestic tasks and housework
• Using his WAV for transport and support to appointments and occasional adventures (full driving licence and WAV confidence essential)

Requirements

• First aid trained
• Comfortable with dogs (friendly spaniel)
• Clear communicator – fluent English
• Great sense of humour
• Positive outlook
• Calm
• Experience of care in the home
• Enjoys the outdoors
• Comfortable taking long walks alongside the off‑road wheelchair (and lots of dog walking)
• Enjoys gardening (general tidying and maintenance)
• DBS required
• Complex care skills and knowledge
• Powered wheelchair experience
• Ventilator experience
• Cough Assist experience
• Manual handling and hoisting experience
• Eyegaze experience and knowledge (desirable)
• Complex care experience: 2 years (preferred)
• Moving & Handling experience: 1 year (preferred)
• Eyegaze experience: 1 year (preferred)
• Fluent English (language) (preferred)
• Work authorisation: United Kingdom (preferred)

Pay

£15.00 per hour PAYE or £17.00 per hour if self‑employed.

Schedule

The 24‑hour support can be provided by one PA (24 hours) or shared between two PAs (12 hours each). A vehicle is available on a 1:1 basis.
