Comparative Medicine Program Research Animal Technicians I, II, III
About the role
The Comparative Medicine Program (CMP) enhances excellence in research and teaching at Texas A&M through high quality animal care. We provide a variety of services to researchers at the university through standard and specialized facilities. These services include the procurement of animals and animal husbandry supplies, provision of veterinary care, use of CMP surgical facilities, a polyclonal antibody production service, technical support services, and animal use training services.
Responsibilities
- husbandry duties for laboratory animals;
- sanitation of assigned animal holding rooms;
- maintenance of assigned support areas.
Requirements
- Research Animal Technician I: High School diploma or equivalency, or any equivalent combination of education and experience and six months of related experience in laboratory animal care. Successful completion of a formal Laboratory Animal Science Course may substitute for three months of laboratory animal care experience.
- Research Animal Technician II: High School diploma or equivalency, or any equivalent combination of education and experience and one year of related experience in laboratory animal care. Successful completion of a formal Laboratory Animal Science Course may substitute for three months of laboratory animal care experience.
- Research Animal Technician III: High School diploma or equivalency, or any equivalent combination of education and experience and two years of related experience in laboratory animal care. Successful completion of a formal Laboratory Animal Science Course may substitute for three months of laboratory animal care experience. While not required, the well-qualified level III candidates would possess the following: Successful completion of any CMP Laboratory Animal Science Course or successful completion within the first year in position American Association of Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalency, or any equivalent combination of education and experience and six months of related experience in laboratory animal care for Research Animal Technician I.
- High School diploma or equivalency, or any equivalent combination of education and experience and one year of related experience in laboratory animal care for Research Animal Technician II.
- High School diploma or equivalency, or any equivalent combination of education and experience and two years of related experience in laboratory animal care for Research Animal Technician III.

Pay
Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire’s experience.
Schedule
Must work weekends and holidays as required on a shared basis. Alternate shifts are available for work outside of normal business hours, such as a Tuesday through Saturday shift or a Sunday through Thursday shift.
