Company Truck Driver Trainee

About the role

The Driver, Trainee Component position at McLane is designed to learn the essential functions of the Driver job, including accurate and timely product distribution. Trainees gain exposure to warehouse and operational functions as they develop their skills.

Responsibilities

• Maneuver tractor into position to attach trailer and handle lines to secure.
• Operate truck in a safe manner, adhering to all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.
• Inspect tractor-trailer equipment for defects before and after trips and submit DOT inspection reports.
• Operate Driver Delivery Handheld (DDH) to document delivery receipts, product temperatures, and exceptions.
• Inspect trailer to ensure product security during transportation.
• Ride and train with a Driver Trainer to various destinations, learning commercial driving regulations and observing proper vehicle operation.
• Document delivery receipts, product temperatures, and exceptions in the driver log according to DOT regulations.
• Assist the Driver in unloading trailers and delivering products to customer premises.
• Provide customer service, ensuring on-time delivery of undamaged product and handling product returns and credits.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Possess a Class A CDL.
• Be at least 21 years of age.
• Meet eligibility requirements in the McLane Transfer and Promotion Policy.
• Ability and willingness to load, unload, and deliver all products as per customer orders.
• Read, write, and understand English to perform job-related tasks effectively and safely.
• Understand and follow work instructions, safety protocols, and communications essential to the role.

• Pay Rate: $75,000 to $88,000 after training, with top drivers earning up to $100,000 +.
