Companion Caregiver

About the role

Visiting Angels of Lufkin is hiring Companion Caregivers to support senior adults throughout the Deep East Texas area, including Lufkin, Huntington, Diboll, Zavalla, Nacogdoches, Corrigan, Applesprings, Etoile, Wells, and surrounding communities. Caregivers help clients stay at home or recover at home with dignity, providing personalized assistance and companionship.

Responsibilities

• Assist clients with personal care and hygiene.
• Manage light housekeeping tasks.
• Encourage clients to meet exercise and fitness goals.
• Prompt clients to take prescription medications at the correct times.
• Help with shopping, grocery unpacking, or shop on behalf of clients.
• Plan and prepare meals in collaboration with clients, based on their abilities.
• Assist with mobility and ambulation, including moving around the house, attending doctor appointments, and taking walks.
• Respond quickly to medical emergencies and report any health changes or unusual circumstances.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Excellent time-management skills.
• Reliable transportation to client visits.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Familiarity with basic housekeeping and cooking tasks.
• Ability to pass a background check and drug screen.
• Training/knowledge in First Aid and emergency response.
• A heart for vulnerable people seeking meaningful companionship.
• Willingness to comply with state and office-specific health and safety standards.
