Companion Caregiver

About the role

Visiting Angels of Abilene is hiring a Companion Caregiver to support senior adults throughout the Big Country area, including Buffalo Gap, Tuscola, Hawley, and surrounding communities. Caregivers help elderly and home‑care clients stay at home or recover with dignity, providing personal care, companionship, and assistance with daily activities.

Responsibilities

• Assist clients with personal care and hygiene.
• Manage light housekeeping tasks.
• Encourage clients to meet exercise and fitness goals.
• Prompt clients to take prescription medications at the correct times.
• Help with shopping, grocery unpacking, or shop on behalf of clients.
• Plan and prepare meals in collaboration with clients, respecting their abilities.
• Assist with mobility and ambulation, including moving around the house, attending doctor appointments, and taking walks.
• Respond quickly to medical emergencies, reporting health changes or unusual circumstances.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Excellent time‑management skills.
• Reliable transportation to client visits.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Familiarity with basic housekeeping and cooking tasks.
• Ability to pass a background check and drug screen.
• Training/knowledge in First Aid and emergency response.
• A heart for vulnerable people seeking meaningful companionship.
• Willingness to comply with state and office‑specific health and safety standards.

• 10‑hour shifts

• PRN (as needed)
