Community Services Supervisor (Spartanburg)

About the role

Under limited supervision by the County Manager, assists in the development and implementation of intake, probation, and parole services for youth referred to the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ). This position impacts and transforms young lives, strengthens families, and supports safer communities through targeted prevention and rehabilitation.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates and supervises all aspects of day-to-day business for youth referred to DJJ for diversion, intake, probation, or parole supervision.
• Ensures subordinate staff conduct interviews/meetings for juveniles, family members, and service providers to assess juveniles' level of functioning, strengths, and needs.
• Supports subordinate staff in providing alternatives to incarceration through graduated responses and STAP.
• Serves as on-call agent on rotation.
• Ensures subordinate staff provide a comprehensive plan of supervision for assigned youth, including diversion, intake, probation, or parole.
• Assists subordinate staff in developing a comprehensive, needs-based case management plan.
• Advocates on behalf of youth and families to ensure appropriate, timely, and consistent services.
• Ensures subordinate staff conducts assessments for services and living arrangements for youth re-entry to the community.
• Ensures subordinate staff maintains case files, including JJMS data entry and uploading documents.
• Promotes restorative justice practices to address repair of harm/compensation to victims and communities.
• Prepares reports, forms, and participates in various meetings.
• Participates in job-related training and workshops for professional development.
• Performs other related job duties as requested or required.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree and related experience.
• Knowledge of federal/state laws and regulations pertaining to juvenile offenders and the juvenile justice system.
• Knowledge of the objectives, techniques, and practices of juvenile justice intake/probation functions.
• Knowledge of fact-gathering methods and interviewing techniques.
• Ability to develop, enhance, and work with community collaborative initiatives.
• Ability to organize and maintain a caseload.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to facilitate and broker services for juveniles, their families, and victims.
• Ability to utilize a wide range of graduated responses.
• This position may involve job duties relating to the custody, control, transportation, or recapture of juveniles within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice, with direct and indirect contact with juveniles.
• Must be able to drive and travel throughout the state.
• Must be able to physically lift up to 25 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in behavioral sciences, criminal justice, or related field and three (3) years of experience in strength-based case management, work with community-based programs, intake case management, probation, intensive case management, criminal justice, or equivalent related experience.
• One (1) year of supervisory experience.
