About the role

The Community Schools Specialist (CSS) is a school-based position, working under the vision and direction of the school principal and Community Schools Manager to build effective partnerships among families, schools and community stakeholders to support student learning.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates, plans, and implements support programs and services within the school and the community to ensure the academic and social success of students.
  • Affirms which services are most needed at the school and works with the school leadership team, the community, families and agencies to bring the identified services to the school.
  • Conducts need and asset assessments to prioritize services, identify gaps in services, and build on existing supports.
  • Creates and implements the community schools plan in collaboration with all school stakeholders.
  • Establishes, maintains, and updates agreements and MOUs with partners and programs.
  • Collaborates with the Student, Family, and Community Affairs Office (SFCA) on programming for the Community School and support the community engagement work, and other engagement initiatives.
  • Supports schools to build their capacity to develop and foster productive partnerships that facilitate positive relationships.
  • Collaborates with the school team to monitor outcomes and the effectiveness of partnerships.
  • Performs other related student, family, and community engagement duties as requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Social Work, Communications, or other related field; Plus two (2) years of related work experience in a related field; OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience totaling six (6) years.
  • Proven successful experience working in a school setting preferred.

Qualifications

  • Proof of Education, Training, and/or Experience is required.

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Experience with data analysis and program evaluation.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
