Community Resource Representative - City of Birmingham

Job Summary

The City of Birmingham is seeking a dedicated Community Resource Representative to foster citizen and community engagement by assisting residents, nonprofit organizations, local officials, and community groups with community development and public health initiatives. This position serves as a liaison between the City and the community by providing information, interpreting policies and ordinances, identifying community needs, and supporting neighborhood improvement efforts.

Responsibilities

• Develops and implements community programs and projects
• Maintains related communications and records
• Trains neighborhood association leaders on the effective administration and oversight of association activities
• Provides assistance with a variety of city programs, initiatives, events, and emergencies
• Oversees the evaluation and processing of goods and services
• Plans, conducts, and facilitates meetings and special events
• Implements and monitors Neighborhood Association activities
• Engages in activities for self and staff that are designed to ensure professional development
• Acquires, exchanges, and disseminates technical or legal information to neighborhood or community associations or residents

Compensation & Benefits

Minimum Qualifications

• Driver's license
• Associate's degree or higher from an accredited college/university in any of the following areas: sociology, social work, planning, urban studies, public administration, business administration, or a related field
• Work experience performing neighborhood/community program development, monitoring, and implementation
• Experience organizing/implementing community and public outreach events, efforts, and mass communications
• Experience in a customer service capacity dealing with a diverse population

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in sociology, social work, planning, urban studies, public administration, business administration, or a related field
• Significant work experience performing neighborhood/community program development, monitoring, and implementation
• Experience monitoring budgets and expenditures
• Experience creating and managing social media platforms
