Position Summary

The Community Relations Intern supports the Trenton Ironhawks' efforts to build meaningful relationships throughout the Greater Trenton community through outreach initiatives, charitable partnerships, fan engagement programs, and special events. This internship provides hands-on experience in community relations, event coordination, promotions, and public engagement while offering valuable exposure to the business side of professional sports.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning and coordinating community outreach initiatives, charitable programs, school visits, and nonprofit partnerships.
  • Help organize community appearances involving players, coaches, team staff, and the mascot.
  • Represent the Trenton Ironhawks professionally at community events, festivals, and public appearances.
  • Build positive relationships with fans, community organizations, schools, and local businesses.
  • Aid in preparing promotional materials, giveaways, and event supplies for outreach initiatives.
  • Assist with the setup, execution, and breakdown of community events and promotional activations.
  • Capture photos and short videos from community appearances and events for use on social media and digital platforms.
  • Support game-day promotional activities and fan engagement initiatives as needed.
  • Affiliate with Marketing to promote community initiatives and outreach programs.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to brainstorm creative community engagement opportunities and outreach campaigns.
  • Affiliate with promotional efforts that strengthen the Ironhawks' connection with the community.
  • Afford assistance with maintaining community appearance calendars and outreach schedules.
  • Afford assistance with preparing event packets, correspondence, and promotional materials.
  • Afford assistance with data entry, filing, and special projects.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a college or university program in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Sports Management, Event Management, Business, Hospitality, or related field.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Positive attitude with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic computer proficiency including Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with event planning, community organizations, photography, or social media is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods during games and community events.
  • Ability to transport promotional materials, signage, and event supplies.
  • Comfortable working evenings, weekends, and holidays throughout the hockey season.

  • Additional availability for community appearances and outreach events outside of game days may be required.
