Community Outreach Specialist/Coordinator
This position works under the direction of the Director of the Medina County Veterans Service Office (MCVSO). The Community Media Outreach Specialist/Coordinator is a front office, public-facing role responsible for planning, producing, and supervising all media, communications, and outreach activities representing MCVSO. This role serves as MCVSO’s communications and outreach lead, handling media, public engagement, holistic programming, and volunteer coordination while providing secondary support to the Intake/Reception office.
In accordance with the Ohio Revised Code Title 59, the applicant must be a veteran or, if a qualified veteran is not available, the spouse, surviving spouse, child, or parent of a veteran.
Responsibilities
- Media, Communications, and Public Information
- Develop, write, design, and publish newsletters, press releases, brochures, flyers, and other communication materials.
- Manage and maintain all MCVSO social media platforms, ensuring timely, accurate, and mission-aligned content.
- Ensure brand consistency, clarity, and compliance with county and state communication standards.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries and public information requests.
- Maintain communication channels with veterans, families, partner agencies, and the general public.
- Outreach Coordination and Event Management
- Plan, organize, and supervise all outreach events, workshops, and community engagement activities.
- Coordinate logistics, scheduling, promotion, and on-site execution of events.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with community organizations, veteran groups, and service providers.
- Track outreach metrics, attendance, and program outcomes for reporting and evaluation.
- Holistic Wellness Programming
- Coordinate and support holistic wellness programs such as yoga, tai chi, expressive arts, peer support groups, and other veteran-focused activities.
- Recruit and manage instructors, facilitators, and partner organizations.
- Ensure programs are accessible, inclusive, and aligned with MCVSO’s mission of veteran wellness.
- Volunteer Recruitment and Program Development
- Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers and community partners participating in veterans’ programs.
- Develop volunteer roles, schedules, and engagement strategies.
- Maintain volunteer records, training documentation, and compliance with county policies.
- Provide leadership and oversight for all volunteer-driven outreach initiatives.
- Front Office and Intake Support (Secondary Duties)
- Serve as a back-up/assistant to the Intake/Reception office as needed.
- Provide customer service, initial client intake, and administrative support.
- Assist with front desk operations to ensure smooth daily functioning of the office.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all client interactions.
- Control correspondences; return phone calls and correspondence in a timely manner, adhering to agency policy and time frames.
- Prepare reports and type letters as needed.
- Maintain databases needed for reports and division statistics.
- Attend required meetings and training.
- Meet all job safety requirements and applicable OSHA safety standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Additional Support
- Plan, coordinate, and manage outreach and public relations programming for the office, including preparing flyers, marketing materials, and newsletters.
- Research, analyze, and implement new material relevant to service programs.
- Perform administrative functions as necessary.
Skills
- Ability to accurately key a minimum of 40 words per minute.
- Excellent computer keyboard and database entry skills with a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MUNIS.
- Ability to operate office equipment including Xerox machines, fax machines, calculators, and telephones.
- Familiarity with co-workers’ functions to facilitate interdepartmental communication.
- Professional and culturally sensitive demeanor when interacting with co-workers, staff, agency personnel, and the public.
