Community Outreach Organizer

About the role

The Facilities Services Division (FSD), Community Relations Department connects FSD professionals with students, families, staff, and the broader community. This role promotes transparency and fosters meaningful public participation in bond-funded modernization and new construction projects throughout the planning, design, and construction process.

Responsibilities

• Engage community sectors, school administrators, elected officials, regulatory agencies, and the Board of Education in construction and modernization projects, programs, and initiatives.
• Identify, contact, and collaborate with stakeholders to notify them of community meetings and events.
• Implement community outreach strategic plans for assigned projects.
• Schedule, coordinate, organize, and attend outreach activities such as community meetings and events to inform the community about Facilities Services Division projects, programs, and initiatives.
• Provide community feedback to Facilities Services Division administrators and staff.
• Receive community inquiries, gather information from appropriate District personnel, and track responses.
• Work closely with various Facilities Services Division departments to obtain and communicate relevant information to the community, elected officials, and government agencies.
• Inform and engage the community on the school construction process, including site selection, California Environmental Quality Act and Environmental Protection Agency policies, acquisition and relocation, and design and construction issues.
• Inform the community of the Facilities Services Division’s projects, programs, and initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in public relations, community relations, urban planning, business administration, public administration, or a related field from a recognized college or university.
• Two years of experience in a public or private agency performing community outreach activities to obtain diverse community support for community improvement projects, preferably including organizing community outreach campaigns or fieldwork for community-based organizations.
• Valid California driver’s license and use of a motor vehicle.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and travel extensively.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate fluently in Spanish (oral and written) is preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to analyze and synthesize information from various sources to develop outreach materials and action plans.
• Tact and diplomacy in responding to public inquiries.
• Experience managing multiple projects and priorities.
• Ability to plan and present information to diverse audiences.
• Experience facilitating large in-person and virtual community meetings with a variety of stakeholders.
• Experience organizing outreach campaigns or fieldwork for community-based organizations.
• Knowledge of public relations principles.

Positions in this job classification may be offered on a 10- or 11-month basis; salary and paid time off will be adjusted accordingly.

Pay

$104,000.00 - $127,700.00 yearly.
