About the role

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at VCU Health in Richmond, VA seeks a highly skilled and dedicated Community Orthopaedic Trauma Physician to join our dynamic team. Our mission is to provide superb clinical care, educate future orthopaedic surgeons, and advance orthopaedic knowledge through research.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching: Staff inpatient services with learners including medical students, interns, and residents; use contemporary adult learning methods to promote evidence-based practice; demonstrate effective teaching skills and continually develop as a teacher for learners at all levels; complete required evaluations of learners in a timely manner.
  • Research: Participate in clinical and administrative research, according to skills, interest, and funding; research opportunities may include performance improvement initiatives or formal extramurally funded investigations; participation may be as principal investigator or co-investigator; maintain a level of scholarship in Orthopaedic Surgery consistent with academic rank.
  • Service: Work with institutional staff and administration to attain the strategic objectives of VCU Health System, including patient safety, patient and other customer satisfaction, maintenance and enhancement of public perception, and fiscal health.
  • Clinical: Manage patients who present through the orthopaedic trauma service, co-manage patients on other services, triage medicine patients requiring admission in the Emergency Department and non-medical services and non-VCU hospitals; join colleagues in assuring coverage 24-hours a day, every day of the year; comply in a timely manner with all institutional policies for professional work including credentialing, documentation, billing; work effectively with other members of the extended inter-professional team.
  • Other: Ensure compliance with all regulatory and regulatory reimbursement requirements.

Qualifications

  • M.D. degree and American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery certification/eligibility for orthopaedic surgery.
  • Successfully completed an accredited fellowship program in orthopaedic trauma surgery.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team, providing effective communication, both verbal and written.
  • Record of scholarly publication in peer review journals.
  • Direct experience managing complex orthopaedic trauma cases, competence in standard inpatient procedures.
  • A solid understanding of the orthopaedic trauma role and function and interest in teaching and growth in an academic setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
