Community Organizer/Engagement - Annandale

About the role

The Opportunity Neighborhood Community Organizer is a mission-driven position within the Opportunity Neighborhood initiative at FACETS. This role engages, builds, and grows relationships with residents to foster a community where children and youth have opportunities to thrive from cradle to career.

Responsibilities

• Participates in community events to get to know residents and build trust.
• Develops and maintains a list of residents and organizes outreach.
• Develops and implements outreach strategies.
• Establishes a Residents' Council and coordinates its activities.
• Recruits and oversees Neighborhood Ambassadors.
• Maintains records on Neighborhood Ambassadors' participation and outreach work.
• Represents the Opportunity Neighborhood initiative at meetings and presentations.
• Makes referrals for residents and collaborates with the larger FACETS team.
• Maintains the initiative's calendar of events and databases.
• Coordinates with partners to align actions and avoid redundancy.
• Supports the Strategy Manager in collecting and developing data reports.

Requirements

• Possession of a bachelor’s degree in social work, community development, or a related field, or equivalent experience in community development or organizing.
• Demonstrated commitment to community issues and organizing, with a focus on racial and social equity.
• Advanced group facilitation, outreach, and interpersonal/communication skills.
• Fluency in Spanish and English, or willingness to develop interpretation skills.
• Experience building effective relationships, preferably in a network or collective impact model.
• Good analytical, negotiation, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
• Enthusiastic self-starter with strong time and task management skills.
• Demonstrated experience supporting and working with diverse groups of people.
• Able to work some weekends and evenings and have reliable transportation.
• Familiarity with the Annandale or Centreville area is highly desirable.
• Strong computer, Microsoft Office Suite, and other standard office equipment skills.
• Passes criminal and Child Protective Services background checks.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Able to lift 15 pounds occasionally.
• Able to attend occasional meetings at other FACETS office locations.
• Able to travel to 3 annual organization-wide fundraising events.
